Various Artists - CHRW Jazz and Beyond
This is one of my absolute favourite albums - finally managed to track down a physical copy just the other day. Compilation of local London Ontario-area artists, it's got everything from very traditional jazz to fusion to prog, ambient, and more out there stuff. Make sure you at least skim the full album if you want to really get a sense of the kind of stuff that's on there. I've always loved that Deep Distance track, and I need to look into more of Greigg Fraser's other music from that era.
This is one I'd discovered by total accident; I was on a trip back home when I was in grad school and used my dad's computer to rip a CD, but grabbed the wrong files and discovered I'd gotten a rip of this instead of my CD. I'm pretty sure dad would have hated a lot of this, but I was obsessed and I've listened to it regularly ever since. Dad's physical copy disappeared sometime later; guessing he gave it away or something. But it meant my rip of his copy was all I had of it, so it feels really nice having my own copy now. A lot of these bands are obscure and had basically zero internet presence, so with these liner notes I finally have more info to look them up with.
